No Sun, No Fun

As the clouds cover the sky we see the absence of human life. Without the ray of the sun this venue seems pointless. It seems as if Mother Nature has closed it down for the day, or so she thought.
As two couples approach the area they clearly are not disheartened by what is above and are looking forward to the day ahead. Both couples start off by lying down and secluding themselves from one another with their backs to the sky. Even though signs are up against the use of alcohol it can be clearly seen and is in plain sight. Once again we see that this area is correlated with alcohol and the drinking of it.

One by one, the four of them approach the water and slowly enter. It seems like there is a clear gender difference when I come to entering. On one hand, the males are very ignorant when it comes to the temperature of the water. Without hesitation, they dive in together creating a big splash and feeling the cold chill through their whole body straight away. Whilst on the other hand the females are very cautious of the water as if they know of the dangers that the water could possibly present them. It starts with a toe, then a foot, then knee deep. At this point both girls hesitate and relax on the pools edge knee deep realizing that the water is just too cold.

15 minutes passes and nothing is occurring except for the light chatter of conversation and the soft sound of swimming. During this time two groups of people arrive holding towels and drinks in hand only to see the weather above. One of the members comes in and dips a toe in but immediately retreats from the edge whilst simultaneously conversing with the rest of the group. They agree that it’s not worth it to enter and head back inside.

As the couple get out of the water and dry off they crack open the beverages and begin in conversation. I can’t expect them to be hear much longer as the sky darkens. As expected within 10 minutes the gathering of clothes and a cooler are signs of departure. A quick visit to a place like this but with the unavoidable factor of the weather the couple’s time spent at the pool is more than reasonable.

The water is calm and it is clear that this Sunday is not and will not be like the last. For the venue to market itself well it needs the sun. It needs its heat and it needs its light. Without either of those things this spot has no appeal and so as I leave, I leave an empty place who was with little company today. This Las Cruces weather will turn around and when it does it will go back to the way it was and this place will thrive with life, the way it was intended to.
