A Disrespectful Game of Basketball

The day is Wednesday afternoon November 12, 2014; at around 7:00 P.M. I wanted to go to the schools fitness center this field site to observe what type of individuals went later in the evening. I wanted to go explore somewhere new however, at the Center for Activity gym; because I have already observed the weight room, and the cardio, so this day I wanted to go observe the basketball courts. While there I seen the courts filled up with college students playing pickup games of Basketball; such as White, Hispanic, and mostly African Americans. A group in particular that I observed consists of five African Americans. Their names are Tyrome Biggums he was 20 years old, Tall Man Mgee whom was 22 years old, Afro Puff was 19, Curly Q was 20 years old, and the final person was MC Magic whom was 21 years old. These group of guys were all arrogant; with an exception of a few people, however most of them thought they were the best players on the court.
MC Magic appeared to be the leader of the group; while they were all practicing before a pickup game he yelled out to the players on the court, “Whoever wants to get their ass beat on the court come and face us and get embarrassed”. All the other players were laughing, at first glance it seemed as if he only said his comment jokingly, but after further observation he was as serious as can be. Curly Q responded to his comment saying “Bruh, you know ain’t nobody want none, we run this court”. Tyrome Biggums responded by laughing saying “True! True!” Finally a group of players asked the African American players if they wanted to run a quick game. Curly Q responded by laughing saying “yea I can use a good laugh, and I don’t feel like doing much so yea why not”. The other players took his comment as an insult because he said it in a mockingly fashion. They started the game and I have to give the group of African American player’s credit, they played really well. MC Magic, Afro Puff, and Curly Q were all doing different tricks to ridicule the payers that went against them. For instance they would throw the ball off the other players head, they would do the tricks that “Brake the Players ankles”. Which is a phrase that common basketball players use when they juke the players really bad with the basketball that the opposing player either falls or almost falls because of the juke.
After the game the score was 21 to 7 and the African American players didn’t let the other players hear the end of the loss. They said comments like “Y’all suck, please find a different sport to play” or they would say “You need some ice for that Ass-whooping that we just laid on you?” Most of the players were real jerks, except for Tall Man Mgee, he shook all the players’ hands after the game and told each of them “Good game bro”. Tall Man Mgee actually never made any disrespectful comments to any one while I observed them. Finally another group of players wanted to go against them, and the majority of the group did the same thing with the taunts and disrespect towards the other team. MC Magic made a comment “man why does nobody good want to step up to us, I’d rather play a group of females, that’ll be more of a challenge then these guys”. You can tell the other group of players got annoyed because they all had serious and angry faces. After the game which was pretty much like the first game they played, they won 21 to 6; and of course they made rude and unruly comment to the players. I left because I was getting annoyed by their disrespect.
