Turkey Tom Wednesday

As I sit down with my turkey sandwich I begin to observe my surroundings. There are pop tunes playing in the background but not the sounds of the espresso machine. There is no one in line and one of the employees begins snapping his fingers and stomping his feet to the beat of the song playing. The environment is extremely quiet today and there is not much activity.

Two people are sitting on the booths with the little tables in front of them. Both have their laptops open and have headphones on. They are not being very productive school wise since they are both watching the latest TV episodes. One is a college aged male who has a small water to the right of his laptop and a medium warm drink to the left of his computer. He is immersed with the show he is watching and has not taken a single drink from either of his liquids since I have been here. There is a woman sitting on the booth side and has a large water and a medium coffee. She is staring blankly at her laptop with headphones over her head. She also is watching a TV episode but she does not seem very amused.

There is a woman sitting in front of me who has extremely curly hair. She brought her own water bottle and her own lunch and has not purchased anything from the cafĂ©. She has a small Tubberware container which holds a turkey sandwich with Spinach in it. She is talking on the phone with someone she is close with and it appears something sad has happened to the other person since the woman makes deep sighs and continues to say “I’m so sorry” with a true sincerity in her voice. She furrows her brows and looks very sad. For the rest of the conversation the woman stays quiet and lets her friend speak.

Two other blondes sit to the left of me and sit at two separate small tables. Both girls are facing each other on opposite sides of the tables. Both of them have big messy buns on top of their heads. The Bun-heads both are working hard on long essays and are typing vigorously and are immersed in their own little worlds. The Bun-heads both purchased large waters and large coffees.

The bookstore is not very busy today. There is a female with a purple backpack and purple glasses who descends from the escalator. As she is walking out of the bookstore something catches her eye and she turns around and looks at the books near the front of the store.  Although she was going to leave the bookstore now she is completely distracted with other items and begins to slowly roam around the clothing section carrying a gas station coffee around with her.  There is a female with a bright pink phone case walking randomly around the bookstore and talking very loudly on her phone and seems upset. She has a grey sweater which has bright beading down the center of her sweater.

There is a male college student who just entered the bookstore and he is wearing an NMSU ball-cap and sweatshirt with black sweatpants. He has black ray-bans covering his eyes and he has a swag attitude about him. He walks around the clothing section of the bookstore slowly.

Two tall college aged men descend from upstairs and after getting off the escalator they walk around the clothing section. Both men are wearing tank tops and basketball shorts probably because today is a warmer winter day. Both of these men have their NMSU lanyards around their neck. They seem to be having a funny conversation since both of them laugh a lot as they roam through the clothing section.
