During the process of personal gain in the matter of muscle
a lot of failure is seen. I, personally
having felt the weight of failure and embarrassment, know the struggle
associated with progress. Recently I found myself struggling with lifting
weights that one year ago were no problem for me. This is a common thing that
an undisciplined and unstructured routine will do to any individual. What I had
noticed is that even though I was struggling with low weight nobody was
staring, nobody was laughing, nobody cared to make fun of me. The only thing I
realized is that culturally we are afraid to work out because we are afraid to
be made fun of alongside a multitude of other reasons but in the actual culture
of gym fitness we see that people who struggle are not made fun of but
encouraged. Most of the fear seems to be abused by a few unwanted gym patrons.
Mr.O’s philosophy about weight training is “ I’d rather die
under the bar than quit early”. This isn’t an uncommon philosophy in the gym
community amongst the more experienced individuals. This has a great transition
to the academic lifestyle as well. Basically with this philosophy it is shown that
failure isn’t an option and all other measures are taken to prevent it from
happening. Knowing MR.O’s background and understanding that he comes from a
family bent on the opinions of the parents we see that Mr.O’s mindset is deeply
rooted in his upbringing and the culture he has been involved with as a young
boy.
What is seen a lot in this community is a type of discipline
that is normally associated with few outside of the military. A daily routine,
a job to do, and preparation for the job are the basic components of the
lifestyle I refer to. When we see these people outside of their daily routine
we see large people with defined bodies and think they are taking drugs to get
to this state but in reality most are just on a disciplined routine and
maintain this routine through the hard times and easy. This isn’t an option it’s
almost law.
