The Weather

I don’t understand how it can be Antarctica cold in the morning but by the afternoon it’s like Miami heat.

As I walked in, I could tell that everybody else was wondering the same thing. Most of the people had dressed for the cold of winter (although it is still fall), and as the day had progressed, lost a layer off there getup. Jackets, coats and scarfs were placed on the seats and some went as far as ordering a beverage with ice.

Although there were few, the place was bustling with noise. The noise was probably by all the people that walked in for carry- out:  temporarily filling the sound void with their orders, taking it, and leaving- followed by another order and so on and so forth.

The couple across from me seemed to be enjoying the background noise, instead of creating their own. The sat across each other eating quietly, occasionally checking their phones for the time or reply to a text message.

Next to me was a lady with her (what I presume to be) grandchildren, A little boy and a little girl approximately 4 years old. The lady was accompanied by her friend of relatively the same age. They conversed about their day and how they had been, once in a while interrupted by the two little ones that tried to sneak off or start a food fight.

The rest of the 4 tables around me were taken by one person each, minding their own business eating and being on their phones.
