The end of the week

It’s a windy and fairly cool Friday night but it still hasn’t stopped all these people from coming out to enjoy some good old Mexican fast food. I

I arrive at the restaurant at 6:30 PM and there were four people present. The first pair seems to be Mom and daughter and the other was a couple who I estimate to be in their early thirties.

Mom and her daughter sat at a table enjoying their plates and conversing. None of them were staring at their phones; instead they were really conversing a lot. I could have overheard them speaking about any and everything. They seem to be very close and are just probably having some mother and daughter time over some good cheap food.

The other couple was ‘Mr. Coors’ and his fiancée Michelle. They were both of Hispanic decent and routinely interchange from English to Spanish. I refer to him as Mr. Coors because he has on what seems to be work attire from the company. Michelle sat across from him holding his hand and listening to what he had to say. They seem to be a really happy couple. While conversing Mr. Coors occasionally show’s Michelle stuff on his phone and they laughed.

Three university students, all guys who I’ve seen on campus before came in and sat at a table. They were discussing among themselves what they were going to order. Wayne the waiter was attending to someone in the drive thru and as soon as he was finished they were ready to order. They seem to be very great friends with Wayne the waiter, that’s really strange because I’ve never seen them here while conducting my observation. This group of three is a very multiracial group. One of the guys is African American, the other is Caucasian and the third is of Hispanic descent. They spoke about regular guy stuff which included girls, sports and video games. They were all soaked up in their phones texting, but for some strange reason one of the guys hung up on a call stating that he was speaking to his friends.

Another Hispanic couple walks into the restaurant. The guy orders the food and drinks and then he and his girlfriend stood by the counter waiting for their order. They both seemed like the quiet type, they barely spoke and just seem to know each other.

About ten minutes pass by and a group of four African American teens walk in. they seem to be first timers at the restaurant. Wayne the waiter offers them a menu to look over and tells them to call him if they need any help. They spoke African American English and cracked jokes with each other regularly. This group consisted of two males and two females but they all just seem to be good friends and not in relationships. Both girls seem to be very good friends, they discussed their weekend plans and showed each other what I believe were text messages and did the regular women gossip thing. They ordered two large nachos and various drinks and shared among themselves.

That’s all the time I have here at my field site tonight.
