It's a late Saturday night here in Las Cruces New Mexico. It's 6:30 P.M. I am here at the Pan American Center working the Alabama concert. I am a floor usher, I can definitely say I'm a bit nervous as to how things are going to play out. the stage is set up very nicely, to me it seems as if it's going to be a rock concert of some type. doors open up in about 30 min. I am mentally preparing myself for what is about to take place.
Finally doors open and the people start flooding in like rushing water! To my surprise everyone is dressed up in Western Cowboy attire. one particular group of individuals next to me is dressed up from head to toe! They have on huge cowboy hats of various color along with matching belts and boots. I have been attending New Mexico State for two years now and I have never seen people dressed like this and this is an Agricultural school haha! I feel as if I am attending a rodeo it's pretty cool.
Then the lights just went off and these bright colorful spot lights turn on, the crowd is going wilddddd!!!! All I hear is people screaming
" I LOVE YOU ALABAMA" people are screaming, crying and dancing all over the place when the band comes out. The band is a group of middle aged Caucasian men from the south. Their style of music was absolutely shocking, it was hardcore Country, Bluegrass Soft rock music.
I'm praying the crowd can't see my face because if they could they'd probably either kick me out of force me to dance with them until I begin to enjoy it! I mean people are jammin all the way out, signs and all. Everyone knows the words to the songs except me, even my coworkers know the lyrics. This band is definitely famous they said so earlier that they travel the world. People of all ages and genders are here but not all ethnicity ; it is predominately Caucasian Americans.
I must say I am in deep culture shock but I am glad I am in attendance because I am able to learn from this experience, adapt and adjust to a new environment and become more open minded to unaccustomed things.
