Puerto Ricans Can Get Down

For this weeks blog notes i decided to go to a family party. My family is Puerto Rican so i will be talking about stereotypes that are actually true about us and show you some of the cultural norms. First lets talk about the stereotypes that i have heard about puerto ricans. I have heard people say that us Puerto Ricans are "loud" well yes this is true. Get a group of us together and we will have a conversation and competition to see who is the loudest, which is unintentional. Some other stereotypes about Puerto Ricans are they are the proudest hispanics about their culture. They are also great at dancing, have great music and food and can have a great time. This is a great transition into the culture which is what i will be talking about next.

Yes it is true us Puerto Ricans can have a damn good time at parties. If you have ever attended a party with puerto ricans you will agree with me. The food is fantastic and can be really filling. Some of the foods for example are pork, beans, white rice, flan, sweet corn bread, avocado, etc. Some of my family members do not drink but the ones that do get liquid confidence and thats when the fun begins at parties. Its really interesting and funny seeing my family members getting drunk and getting down on the dance floor. Some of the music is "different" and hard for me to understand because i do not speak or understand spanish at all but its still fun getting in the rythm with them. That is one of the downsides to going to parties with my family members because there is a language barrier with my grandparents or older relatives. But with the younger ones like my cousins and some aunts/uncles i can carry on a great conversation with them. It is really funny seeing my family members having a "shouting contest" in spanish because it is just back and fourth and back and fourth for hours and hours.

It is hard to spend time with my relatives because they all live in california. They are the stereotypical Puerto Ricans that move from Puerto Rico to New York and then to California. So every opportunity i get to see them i take that chance. I would talk more about my family and the culture we see at family events but i was only there for the weekend and spent one day with them. So for that reason i will end my notes right here.
