Back to the grocery store for this weeks blog. This venture into the grocery store is quite different then the last one simply because its holiday season. As I walk into the store there are no beautiful flowers of an assortment of color waiting upon customer arrival, rather there are boxes of cordial cherries, trays of Christmas cookies, and holiday pies. I also realize that the background "elevator" music for the store has changed to Christmas music and holiday melodies. I notice people are dressed more cold weather appropriate this time as well. I see more sweaters, jackets, wool hats and gloves then before, which obviously is a result of a drop in temperature in the last few weeks.
I observe quite a few people that seem to be stocking up ahead of time for holiday groceries, such as turkeys, hams, stuffing and pie crusts. I notice a man that appears to be in his late 40s possibly early 50s pushing or trying to push (I should say) 2 shopping carts full of groceries. Both carts are simply overloaded with different groceries which with a closer look appear to be groceries for the thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching. I thought to myself as I observed this guy having to attempt to push both shopping carts overloaded with groceries, how this guy could not have anyone to help him shop or simply come to the store with him to simply help him push the other shopping cart. In any case it was quite amusing to watch him push 2 carts with a crowded grocery store of people and other sale items occupying the aisles.
After what seems like a couple of hours of shopping I come across a lady in the distance with her daughter. The lady appears to be in her 30s and the daughter appears to be a young teenager. I over hear the daughter asking her mom what family (exactly) will be coming to their house for the thanksgiving holiday. The mother starts naming and counting the family members that will be joining them. After the mother finishes counting and naming all the family members the daughter looks down at the grocery cart and says "I think we're going to need more food." The mother chuckles and agrees and they continue throughout the store shopping for the things on their holiday grocery list.
I pick a few more items that I needed to check off my grocery list and make my way to checkout lines. When I approach I quickly realize that I will be standing in line for awhile as the lines are quite long tonight and all of the grocery carts are plum full with holiday goodies to soon be consumed by families getting together and reciting what they are thankful for this year, at the very least families will be joined and reunited for what hopefully turns out to be a happy holiday.
