Thanksgiving Break

This week in study hall at the Multon Center student athletes highly anticipated the thanksgiving break that would begin on Friday. So for the most part this week a majority of student athletes got their hours in early this week. Most of them had finished all of their mandatory hours by either Tuesday or Wednesday; by taking advantage of the fact study hall was open on Sunday. For a majority of the student athletes they planned on beginning their break as soon as possible and many of them took off on Thursday after class and practice. For the rest of the student athletes leaving on Friday the coaches of the sports that were not currently in season canceled practice on Friday so that student athletes could be home within a decent hour especially for those who lived out of the state or farther away. For the student athletes who were not going home they had the Senior Day for football to look forward to this week, as well as up an coming basketball games from both the men and women’ team.
For the international students a majority of them were on the males basketball team, but for those who weren’t and were on the Track and Field, Swimming, Golf, and Tennis team just to name a few those who were not staying on campus during the break went home with a friend and enjoyed the festivities of Thanksgiving with their friends family. The focus level in study hall I would have to say was at an all time low for some of the students, due to the fact that they were preoccupied with thoughts of what Thanksgiving had to bring. Student athletes became easily distracted by the simplest things such as thoughts of food, holiday vines, and just about anything else. It was an absolute struggle for many to complete the simplest assignment.
So in order to counteract this student athletes used food, music, and games to get through study hall and complete their assignment that were due by the end of the week. And sometimes-even sleep was used to get through study hall, just to make the time pass and make it one day closer to break. Not only was Thanksgiving break coming up but many end of the year projects were due this upcoming week, such as 8 page papers, group collaborations, and many more. The theme of exhaustion and just plain up being fed up continued to occupy study hall this week, and I believe it will continue for the rest of the semester, simply because the student athletes are so close to being done with school for the semester.
Once again this week in the Multon Center with football season coming to an end and basketball season beginning, more football players continued to occupy study hall, and even less basketball players occupied study hall, aside from the red shirts for both the boys and girls teams. And for the volleyball players they were not in study hall at all this week unless they were a red-shirt due to the fact that they were away at the WAC conference game. Overall in study hall this week the excitement of Thanksgiving break overwhelmed everyone in study hall.
