Slow Day Construction

11/16/14
Field Work 11
It is Sunday evening at 5:00. This week at Royalty Burger has been unusual. Due to construction we have only just reopened this Saturday. Probably at least in part due to this we have seen very few customers today. There are 3 employees excluding myself working today and all of them have very little do. It seems as the more bored they get the more they fool around, including the manager, Slick oddly enough. Still I have a few customers here and there, but for the most part there are not many regulars coming today. They probably were aware of the construction and thought it would take longer to finish than it did. Either way something unusual I noticed was that although it was very slow today, most customers were making multi-combo orders. Typically there is a relatively stable ratio of small orders and large orders; 3:1 respectively, would be an educated guess. Today would skew any normal data, if I was taking the time to document any.

It is 5:30 p.m. and a young girl orders using a coupon as well as ordering a promotional item. When the car drives forward a young man is driving, my first assumption was whoever the girl was had talked across as she ordered, however I noticed that he just had a very feminine voice. I did not mention it to him, but I called him “miss” which is probably why he is scowling at me. He was a short, skinny young white man and it appears he was making an effort to talk in a more masculine tone now, it was not going over well. I gave him his food and he left in a foul mood.

Directly after this young man came a gruff sounding older man. He ordered 2 combos and drove forward before I asked him to do so. Typically these typed of customers act the same. They are in a hurry, do not consider things in another’s point of view, and get annoyed very easily. To counter them from becoming an annoyance to me, I turn on the “bright and shiny” a term I use for acting overly courteous to annoying people, which for the most part stops them from complaining. Then I brought him his food and he left without incident. My managers have noticed how I handle people that can easily become a problem and often have me deal with them, although I would rather not.
In conclusion here at Royalty Burger we had a very slow day, which was probably because of people believing we were still closed due to construction.
