The Long Wait

I walk into the coffee shop and wait in line to take my order. When it is my turn I am not greeted by the employee. He is busying writing down all of the orders so he is frantic. So I kind of just stand there waiting to be acknowledged. He finally takes my order and you can tell that he is new because he has to look at the code sheet to type into the cash register. Most of the tables are taken up so I just decided to take one that has a used cup on it. I only do this in order to actually see what is around me because if not I would be sitting with my back to everybody. On the right side of me is a man with crazy afro hair who seems to be on his phone. To the left of me are a woman and a man. I cannot tell if they are dating or if they are just friends. They are facing each other in a way that makes it known that they know each other fairly well.  Behind me is a man reading a book with his headphones plugged in because it is rather loud in here. A man in bright yellow walked into the shop and goes to the couple to the left of me. After yellow man greets them he makes his rounds to all the other people in the shop he knows. Overhead NPR news is playing as usual. Today they are playing strange medieval folk music. I don’t know if the employees are just busy or if they forgot my order? NPR is playing Amazing Grace overhead. The woman from the couple recognizes a man and a woman across the room and she says, “Hey Nicole! Is this your baby?” and after that I am out of ear shot. Every time I come in here some body knows somebody. Every time. The non- indifferent employee was working and she just got off work and she goes to the afro man that is sitting near me and they leave together. Then she comes back into the building to put some ones into the tip jar.  I seriously think they forgot my order. I’ll just tell them after it winds down. Man I really think this cold weather is making this place busy because an influx of people just came in. There is a long line. The music is now playing hard core opera with trumpets, and it is pretty intense. The man from the couple who was talking to those people just came back and is typing something. When he was walking back I heard him say he needs to write a letter? The woman comes back and says to the man, “That is such a cute baby!” then resumes to say something else and she goes, “I’m sorry am I interrupting you?!” and he reassures her that she is not and they continue to talk. It doesn’t seem like he is going to finish his letter because she will not stop talking. But he doesn’t seems to mind as he is smiling and enthusiastically talking back to her. He seems to really like her. They keep on leaning in towards each other. Yay! They remembered my order! The employee came and brought it to me and apologized for it being a long wait because they were loaded up. Well I will just have to drink this in the car because I have to leave! Today is my birthday! Until next time!
