This week my wallet was running low, so I went to Wendy’s. I felt like it was maybe a mistake going there, fortunately I wasn't alone. It was around 5 o’clock, and my roommate and I went because we were both starving. When we got there was person in front of us and we were debating whether or not to eat there but we decided just to eat there. We ordered, but the girl taking our order didn't even ask if it was for take out or dine in and we suspected she over heard us talking. Which made me think, were we talking loud or can you really just hear everyone’s conversations that well.
When we were headed towards our table, there were two older men and while we sat down they were staring at us, it was actually pretty creepy because one of they were old enough to be my father and grandfather. Throughout our meal, they kept looking at our table and I was feeling very uncomfortable!
In another table there was a lady sitting by herself, but I have a feeling she was homeless. Not to sound offensive, but her personal hygiene didn't look too good. She also had 2 large plastic bags at her side and she was talking to herself. I felt bad for her, as a matter of fact I feel bad for anyone and anything that doesn't have a home, it is good at some point but then other times it feels horrible.
There was also another guy who seemed to be a high school or college student sitting by himself, on his phone (now where have I seen this before), waiting for his food.
Towards the front of the building there were two other men, maybe in their late 20’s early 30’s, they looked like they had just gotten off work because they were wearing work clothes that was dirty, there was evidence of white paint on it and they were enjoying their lunch. Later as we left is when I found out that my room said they had been looking back at our table every now and then too! Lesson I learned: Do not go to Wendy’s during that time in the afternoon! That was the really a non-enjoyable experience.
This makes me wonder if a woman being in a room full of men is uncomfortable or if it depends on the woman. I know, my roommate and I were uncomfortable and I also know of seven other women that do not feel comfortable.
Another group of five friends came in, 3 girls and 2 guys and after they sat down I felt a little more comfortable. They ordered and sat down and right away one of the girls goes for their phone! They begin chatting away and sooner or later they all end up using their phones, in replacement of the awkward silence that happens, they remain on their phones until their food comes out and it is until then that they begin to talk again. I swear everyday I am noticing how we are becoming more and more technologically dependent.
