It’s a chilly Monday morning. I walk through my building at work and notice people in cardigans and pants even though the building is usually really warm. I walk through the lab and see a couple of students settling into their desks. As I walk to my desk I pass by Dwight who as always is focused on his laptop. Chuck and Blaire are sitting at their desks as well, drinking some coffee and talking about the weather and their drive over from El Paso. They say good morning to me as I pass by their desks and sit down at mine.
It’s 8:16 AM and most of my coworkers are here early. I settle down at my desk and get ready to take my notes. It’s pretty quiet for a few minutes until Dwight swivels his chair around and quietly walks over to the coffee machine. There’s a moment of silence, I notice Chuck and Blaire pause their conversation to look over at Dwight, then turn back and begin talking.
This is going to be a slow day.
Burrito Lady has arrived! It is 8:24 AM when Burrito Lady and her assistant walk in quietly and immediately begin arranging the food. As the arranging begins, I begin to watch Chuck and Blaire. Chuck asked Blaire a question about her weekend and she immediately began laughing before she dove into a story about her mother.
Burrito Lady is just about done now, and she walked over to Dwight and asked how he was doing. He swiveled his chair around to face her before responding to her too quietly for me to hear.
Where is the mob??
Ponytail Guy and Unamused Guy have arrived! They walk right over to Dwight and Burrito Lady and start talking. Dwight managed to keep up and grab a pastry before sitting back down. Unamused Guy and Ponytail Guy continue talking to Burrito Lady while making their way to the collection of food. They all seem to be friends because they’re all laughing. Dwight already began working again, he seems to really enjoy alone time..good for him.
It’s 8:40 AM now and everyone is quite talkative.
Blaire and Chuck have transitioned their conversation into work topics because they’re both looking through some sorts of files while they talk about field work. As usual Johnny walks in and goes straight over to them and greets them. He asks them what they should of the papers in the files and they discuss work stuff that I don’t understand. After a minute or so Johnny says he’s going to get some food before they leave for their field work, and Chuck and Blaire begin packing up their things.
Johnny says hello to Unamused Guy, Ponytail Guy, and Burrito Lady and then asks Ponytail Guy a question. Burrito Lady shortly after makes her way out of the lab. After talking for a while Johnny proceeds over to Chuck and Blaire who have their backpacks on and they leave the lab together.
It’s 8:47 AM. Unamused Guy and Ponytail Guy continue their conversation together as they leave the lab, but say goodbye to Dwight before they go.
It’s been an eventful Burrito Day today! But now it is back to being quiet.
