The Super Model

It is not the usual time of day I do this, but – hey, why not? The feel of the place was a little different as I took my seat. The people who ran this establishment were probably still thinking it was summer because it was the same temperature as outside, and it was not warm outside.

I took the table next to the couple who was getting up to leave. Although it was about lunch time, this place wasn’t that full, and there was only three other tables apart from ours that were occupied. The table furthest away from me was taken by two ladies. They were about in their early to mid-forties. Both of them were wearing work-out clothes and had their hair up. Today seemed like what I like to call a catch-up day for them. Catch-up day is phrase I use where you and your friend pick a day where you’ll spend the whole day catching each other up on what been going on in their lives since the last catch-up day. These two friends seemed to be doing just that. They would both listen intently as the other would talk; laughing from time to time.

The table on the other corner was to me the cutest table. In this table sat four elderly people. Two couples to be exact. They all appeared to be good friends as they chattered away. The men, although sitting vertically across each other, didn’t mind, and would laugh their own jokes, occasionally taking a bite of their food. The elderly woman would listen intently at what the men were conversing about, but were far more concentrated on the cup of ice cream in their hands. They both were very much enjoying each spoonful. I was almost tempted to get a cup of ice cream myself.

The last table was the table closest to me; it was so close I could hear as this grandmother scolded one of her three grandchildren. Sitting across from her were two little boys approximately ages five and six. They each had a toy car in one hand and food in the other. They seemed almost invisible to the lady as they crashed the cars against one another and chewed. This lady was too busy with the two year old little girl sitting next to her. The grandmother kept on repeating to the girl to finish her food this instant. The little girl just kept on whining and saying no, right up until the lady grabbed her phone. That outer boxed phone was like magic, the little girl was hanging on to every word as her grandmother said she would take a picture of her if she finished her food. Once she inhaled her food that girl was ready for her close-up. The lady would take a picture of her and she would immediately want to see it, she was so fascinated by her own self, it was a little funny.
