Why so crabby Nick?

On this chiller Friday I walk into the shop and walk up to the cashier. It’s another new guy and he seems pretty nice. I order my usual and he has to go check if they have the ingredients in order to make my Chai Tea. He comes back and nicely tells that they have all the stuff and he completes my order. I sit down in an empty table. There are not many people in the coffee shop except a couple of people on the couch across the shop. One of them has a hipster type of look to him with his scruffy beard and ponytail. The title of his book is called Reinventing the Pyramids. He seems rather interested in the book. A ways from him is a guy that got here around the same time I did. He has a skater look to him. He is on his cell phone texting or playing a game. As I glance I notice one of the employees that is usually here, Nick is working as well. He is his usual self, a.k.a beard and grungy. Today he is wearing a beanie. There is another man I have seen a couple times who I assume is the manager or the owner of the shop and came up to Nick and patted him on the back. Ponytail man is spacing out and is touching his nose and is not moving. He stayed like that for a couple of minutes. Skater boy put in some headphones. As usual NPR radio is playing overhead and there was a lady lecturing for a while but now orchestral classical music is playing.  It’s a very slow day… no one has come in since I got here and you can tell that even the employees are bored. When I was walking in the parking lot there were two older gentlemen sitting and talking and they are still sitting there in conversation. Finally another customer walked in and ordered an espresso. He is just sitting there. The ponytail man stopped reading his book and his just staring at the book cover and it looks like he is contemplating if he should keep reading or not. I guess he decided to stop because he started texting on his cell phone. I just realized I am the only girl here…  not even any girl employees. Nick just left the shop but I think he is going to come back. He didn’t take a backpack or anything with him. Everybody in here is on their phone. Even the older gentlemen outside. More people just walked in and they are women. An older woman who looks to be in her 70’s and a rather young girl who looks 16. I can’t hear what they are saying but they are ordering. Nick just walked back into the shop.  I have no idea on what he was doing.  I think espresso guy is waiting for someone to show up. One of the employees brought her some type of cream and she put a lot in her drink. So now they are just sitting there rather awkwardly until the older lady starts to talk. The 16 year old doesn’t seem interested in what the lady has to say. Aha Nick just came and brought the younger girl a drink but he did not do it very nicely. He sort of just plopped it on the table but the ladies did not seem to notice. A new customer just walked in. He actually went to my high school but graduated a year earlier. The big machine where all the coffee is made being louder than usual today as it is hard to understand what people are saying. Nick just walked past me and gave the biggest sigh and went to sit with the espresso ordering guy. Nick is in a crabbier mood than usual. Is it sad I know that? Obviously they now each other. I’ve noticed that every time I come here somebody knows somebody. Either customer knows customer or employee knows customer. Well it is time for me to leave. I’m on a schedule today! Until next time!
